Together, the Cornell Engineering Communications Program (ECP), in the College of Engineering at Cornell University, and the Cornell School of Continuing Education (SCE) located in Ithaca, NY, USA, invite applications for a full-time Senior Lecturer position, with teaching responsibilities beginning in the Spring semester 2025, which begins January 2025. This non-tenure track position, teaching separate professional and engineering communications courses, is a nine-month position, appointed three to five years, with a renewable 5-year appointment.
While the first semester teaching (Spring 2025) can be done 100% remotely, by August 2025 it is expected that the successful candidate will reside in Ithaca, NY, USA in order to facilitate classroom demands on the Ithaca campus for the Fall 2025+ appointment.
The plan for this position is that it will be equally split; half of each semester’s teaching load will be seated in the Engineering Communications Program and half will be seated in the School of Continuing Education’s proposed online bachelor degree program. The teaching commitment is comparable to a 2/2 load. While each of these courses has its own overall focus, both require an instructor who can teach not only technical and professional writing but also developing and delivering compelling presentations for professional audiences, constructing targeted figures and tables, working in teams, creating multimodal elements, establishing library skills, and related concepts. Course capacities are 24 or 25 students per section; the courses for ECP will usually be traditional classroom f2f courses, while work with SCE will be with online students.
A strong candidate will also seek opportunities to contribute to developing and enhancing the pedagogical innovations and visibility of the sponsoring programs. This may happen in a variety of ways, including but not limited to the following: professional presentations via relevant conferences or other venues, publishing peer-reviewed research, or conducting workshops for industry representatives or interested faculty and students at the College or University levels. There is no required university committee work, other than participating in ECP and SCE program meetings; however, the programs welcome faculty to join committees and other activities that forward the mission of either or both programs.
The position and program are a good fit for teacher-scholars interested in cross-disciplinary instruction in professional, technical, and engineering communications. ECP and SCE encourage teacher-research in these areas, particularly as it contributes to the programs and enhances communication instruction across disciplines. Funds are available to support the presentation and/or publication of such teacher-research.
Preferred Qualifications
These qualifications will be considered to be connected, related, and of equal importance; as such, the demands of each program are intended to be complementary, rather than competitive. That is to say, the qualifications for this position between both programs. The review committee will consider the merits of the whole application packet for each candidate to assess how individual strengths align with programmatic needs.

Salary Information
Cornell Engineering uses pay ranges for Senior Lecturers at $ 58,00 - $164,000. This position will pay between $72,000 - $92,000, depending on qualifications.
