The Department of City and Regional Planning (https://aap.cornell.edu/academics/department-city-and-regional-planning) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate as part of Cornell’s Active Learning Initiative (https://teaching.cornell.edu/programs/faculty-instructors/active-learning-initiative). We invite applications from candidates who will have completed their Ph.D. no earlier than September 1, 2019, in City Planning, Urban Studies, Geography, or a related field. We seek applicants with strong research potential and, crucially, with a strong interest and commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion through innovative teaching at the undergraduate level. The expected start date for this full-time position is July 1, 2023. As per university academic policy, the initial appointment will be for one year and is renewable up to 3 years, contingent on available funds and satisfactory performance.
We seek scholars with interest and skills in new classroom technologies and creative approaches to teaching in our Urban and Regional Studies undergraduate program. This position is part of a Cornell-wide initiative to shift the undergraduate curriculum toward active learning approaches. The Postdoctoral Associate will work with department faculty to develop, design, and implement active learning techniques in undergraduate courses (no more than 2 per semester), participate in the university-wide ALI program (regular ALI fellows’ meetings and facilitating ALI assessments such as surveys and class observations), and teach one course per year in their area of study.
The Postdoctoral Associate is a member of the Department of City and Regional Planning, will receive professional mentorship from Department faculty, and will be invited to participate in all Department activities and events. The Postdoctoral Associate is required to work in person on the Ithaca campus. The starting salary for this position is $65,000 per year, a generous benefit package, a moving allowance, and up to $3,000 per year in research allowance.
Eligibility:
Applicants must have received the Ph.D. degree no earlier than September 1, 2019. Applicants who will complete all requirements for the Ph.D. degree (including filing the dissertation) before appointment are eligible to apply (in all cases before July 1, 2023). The completion date for the Ph.D. degree cannot in any circumstance be waived or extended.
