Postdoctoral positions to study spatiotemporal regulation of CD4 T cell effector function

Cornell University embraces diversity and seeks candidates who will contribute to a climate that supports students, faculty and staff of all identities and backgrounds. We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented and/or marginalized identities to apply.

The Fowell lab focuses on mechanisms of CD4 effector function, in situ, in inflamed and infected tissues.  We utilize intravital multiphoton imaging, optogenetics and single cell analysis to determine context-specific cues that enhance or regulate CD4 T cell effector function (Th1, Th2, Tfh). Postdoctoral positions are available for a number of projects, including but not limited to:

  • Determining how the inflammatory milieu in infected tissues shapes the transcriptional and epigenetic programming of effector function
  • Development of spatial transcriptomics approaches to determine how tissue location impacts function in infected tissues
  • Positional cues (chemokines, ECM, pathogen foci) that regulate the entry, retention and exit of effector T cells at inflamed sites using optogenetic models to mark T cells in time and space.

Qualifications and Compensation

Applicants must have a Ph.D., M.D., D.V.M., or equivalent advanced degree.  Prior immunology experience is preferred, but not essential.  Candidates with imaging or bioinformatics expertise who are looking to apply quantitative tools to the study of immune responses in health and disease are encouraged to apply.  The PI is committed to supporting the candidate’s career development and research progress, including the exploration of new project areas and collaborations. Competitive salaries are set above the NIH guidelines, with excellent benefits.

Highly Dynamic and Multidisciplinary Environment

Successful postdocs will join a highly collaborative research group within the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and the Cornell Center for Immunology. The positions offer the chance to contribute to a multidisciplinary and cutting-edge research community with opportunities to collaborate closely with experts in immunology, bioinformatics and biomedical engineering, including advanced hyperspectral and 3-photon imaging programs.

Diversity and Inclusion

For over 150 years Cornellians have been striving to create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment. Ezra Cornell’s founding principles stipulate that Cornell is an institution for “... any person ... any study,”. In support of this founding principal, we strongly encourage under-represented minorities and persons from marginalized communities to apply. The University has a Dual Career program to assist candidates and their partners with career searches.
