Tenure Track Assistant Professor - 2 positions - Reproductive Biology and Molecular Basis of Animal and Human Health and Disease

Cornell University embraces diversity and seeks candidates who will contribute to a climate that supports students, faculty and staff of all identities and backgrounds. We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented and/or marginalized identities to apply.

As part of the university's comprehensive vaccination program, all Cornell employees are required to have and provide proof of an FDA-or WHO-authorized or approved COVID-19 primary vaccination or have obtained a university-approved disability/medical or religious exemption, regardless of their role and work location.

New hires are required to provide documentation showing primary vaccination status (that is, completion of two shots of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine or one shot of the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson) before their first day of work. If a new hire's vaccination is not complete or information is not received by their start date, the first day of work will be delayed. It is possible in some cases that an offer of employment may be withdrawn.

Tenure Track Assistant Professor - 2 positions

Reproductive Biology and Molecular Basis of Animal and Human Health and Disease

The Department of Biomedical Sciences at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY is seeking two tenure-track Assistant Professors with active programs in one of two areas of fundamental research.

One recruit will be studying reproductive processes important for fertility and the development of healthy offspring. Investigators whose research has a translational component addressing infertility, animal conservation, or contraception, are strongly encouraged to apply. Topics of study may include but are not limited to pathways involved in ovarian or testes development, germ line formation, meiosis, recombination, gametogenesis, fertilization, embryo implantation and development, parturition, and endocrine control of these processes.

The second recruit will be studying an area of biomedical sciences, broadly defined, that aligns and synergizes with departmental interests in the molecular basis of animal and human health and disease. Work may be in one or more areas that include but are not limited to physiology, stem cell biology, metabolism, cardiovascular biology, reproduction, and neurobiology.

Successful candidates for both positions will be using genetic, genomic, epigenomic, molecular, cell biological, biochemical, or physiological approaches, including use of model, non-model, or domestic animal species. These twelve month appointments afford ample time for research, with teaching opportunities in the veterinary, graduate, and/or undergraduate curricula. Individuals with clinical activities may be candidates for joint appointments within the College of Veterinary Medicine or Weill Cornell Medicine (in New York City).

Research faculty in the Department of Biomedical Sciences are strongly funded through various agencies including NIH, DOD and multiple private foundations, as well as internal awards from centers at Cornell University. Faculty conduct research using whole organism approaches to understand both health and disease mechanisms, leveraging a wide range of molecular, single cell, genomic, and biochemical approaches in their research. We are a highly interactive group, with a strong history of funded collaborations with Weill Cornell Medicine, including ongoing multi-investigator federal grants and joint appointments. The Department of Biomedical Sciences serves as a home for many campus-wide Centers, including Cornell Reproductive Sciences (CoRe),  the Stem Cell Program and the Center for Vertebrate Genomics with additional informal working groups arising in areas including single cell genomics, and DNA replication, recombination and repair, and others.

Cornell University is committed to enhancing faculty hiring and paving the way to new discovery. The university has outstanding research resources for genomics, microscopy, flow cytometry, computational biology, proteomics and metabolomics, as well as a genomics innovation hub. We offer substantial startup funds, competitive salaries and a generous benefit package, which may be supported by Cornell University’s FIRST program (Cornell FIRST), via a grant from the NIH’s Common Fund’s Faculty Institutional Recruitment for Sustainable Transformation (FIRST) program, to recruit early-career faculty who have s demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence.

To apply, submit a cover letter; curriculum vitae; a statement of research goals; a statement of teaching interests and philosophy; the names of three individuals who can provide references; and a statement of contributions to inclusion and diversity (described below). Electronic application submission is through Academic Jobs Online: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/22987.  Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2022, and will continue until the position is filled.

Cornell University is located in Ithaca, on the shores of Cayuga Lake in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York. Ithaca is a vibrant city with museums, theaters, and a diverse selection of restaurants. It is within driving distance of several large metropolitan centers, award-winning wineries, and both cross-country and downhill skiing areas.
