Research and Policy Analyst for Equality Initiative - ILR Buffalo Co-Lab (Buffalo, NY)

Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations Buffalo Co-Lab has an opening for an Extension Faculty/Research and Policy Analyst with a concentration in racial and economic equality and equitable economic development. This position is a renewable five-year appointment as Senior Extension/Extension Associate in the ILR School Extension/Outreach Division Cornell Buffalo Co-Lab.

This Research and Policy Analyst position is responsible for developing and delivering accessible education, practical research and policy applications to address the persistent problems of inequality in the world of work, utilizing Western New York as a field operation for innovation. The successful candidate will provide substantial expertise and collaborative guidance to the Greater Buffalo community and advance the field of equitable community change through national professional and advocacy networks. Position rank will be determined by qualifications and experience.

      

Responsibilities

This senior extension / extension associate position will:

• Develop, maintain and build collaborations with grassroots and advocacy organizations that are advancing racial, social and economic equality.
• Conduct quality academic and applied research and provide education, consultation, insight, and public discourse on policies and practices that can fundamentally reduce inequality in core social and economic institutions, with an emphasis on the world of work.
• Develop relationships and provide assistance to elected representatives, public officials, and community leaders to build support for public policies that promote racial and economic equality and participatory democracy.
• Work in collaboration with other ILR and Cornell colleagues to promote the public good in New York State, consistent with Cornell's land-grant mission and commitment to public impact.
• Participate in state and national events to meet with other professionals, share knowledge/expertise, develop collegial relationships, and maintain professional skills and knowledge.
• Seek and secure funding for maintaining and expanding the Co-Lab’s initiatives for equality.

Qualifications

• Master’s or other advanced degree in a social science, economics, government and public administration, policy or law, with relevant expertise related to racial and economic inequality.
• Life and work experience confronting inequality.
• Experience working with community organizations, unions, government, or advocate or educational organizations on matters related to racial and social justice, and economic equality.
• Strong skills in written communication, report writing, and qualitative and quantitative analysis.
• Ability to work independently and collectively within a team and strong interpersonal communications skills.
• Commitment to working to build more equitable communities and economic democracy.
• Relevant professional leadership and network development at the state, regional, national, and/or international areas in relevant professional, trade, policy, or public networks.
• A record of teaching related courses in college-level environment, conducting training to relevant target audience, and/or conducting research in the thematic content area.
• Demonstrated writing ability and scholarly record in the thematic content area (articles in peer-reviewed journals, articles in trade publications, research and project reports, informational brochures, policy briefs, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Terminal degree in related field.
• Knowledge of and experience with Western New York regional political economy.
• Minimum of one to three years demonstrated experience in large project management (e.g. several staff and budgets exceeding $500,000).
• Minimum of one to three years demonstrated experience in promoting thematic area program teaching, consultation, and research services to regional, state, or national networks through the use of in-person, print, and electronic mediums.
• Professional credentials in disciplinary area, such as appropriate state and national licensure, certifications, etc.
• Minimum of one to three years demonstrated experience in successful grant writing and grant management.
• Minimum of one to three years of experience with distance learning.
