Cornell University's School of Operations Research and Information Engineering (ORIE) seeks a candidate to be the School’s Arthur and Helen Geoffrion Professor of Practice on its Ithaca campus. The role of this position is to create and sustain applied research relationships with various organizations that can benefit from Operations Research expertise, connecting ORIE faculty and students at all levels with such initiatives. We seek a candidate with the vision and leadership skills to imagine and nurture new connections between the department and both private and public sector partners. The candidate should have a background in bringing OR methodologies (including AI and machine learning) to bear on real-world operational problems. The position will also entail teaching responsibilities that enrich and broaden students’ exposure to applications of OR in society today.
This position is non-tenure track and is envisaged to have a term of three to five years. The position is renewable upon mutual agreement. Requisite is a strong interest in the broad mission of the School, exceptional potential for leadership in Operations Research practice and education, and an ability and willingness to teach at all levels of the program. A Ph.D. degree in OR or a related field is required. We seek individuals that have experience in developing and implementing Operations Research tools within a broad range of settings. The ideal candidate would have 12 or more years of experience in a combination of educational and industrial (private- or public-sector) work in operations research. Salary will be appropriate to qualifications and engineering school norms.
