The Cornell School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions (SCE) is looking for an Associate Dean of Administration to join the School’s Leadership team. The Associate Dean is a strategic partner to the Dean, and functions as the college business officer overseeing all administrative activities in support of the academic mission of the School. SCE is embarking on new initiatives that make this an exciting time to be part of the School and will provide opportunities for career advancement for the selected candidate.

Cornell University’s School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions (SCE) serves as Cornell’s gateway to lifelong learning, providing traditional and non-traditional learners alike with innovative, flexible, and accessible educational opportunities that transform lives, advance careers, and positively impact communities around the world.

In partnership with Cornell schools and colleges and with eCornell, SCE offers Summer Session/Winter Session courses for credit on campus, off campus, and online, Precollege programs, and Part-time study for visiting students, year-round.  In Fiscal Year 2022-23, SCE mounted more than 400 classes and programs, enrolled and registered more than 5,600 matriculated Cornell and visiting precollege, undergraduate, and graduate students, and collected approximately $31 million in tuition, program fees, gifts, and other resources.


In addition, SCE is launching a new online part-time bachelor’s degree program for non-traditional students, working closely with Cornell’s Provost, the Vice Provost for External Education, the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, and an advisory board of Cornell faculty members.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Dean and Senior Associate Deans on SCE planning and strategy.
  • Develop the strategic direction and implementation of business operations, financial policies and reporting, budgeting, human resources, information technology, facilities, and student services administration, ensuring effective resource management and compliance with applicable laws and university policies.
  • Develop and oversee administrative activities to support all aspects of the delivery of SCE programs.
  • Serve as SCE’s primary liaison with the University Budget, Financial Affairs, Information Technology, Office of Human Resources, International Human Resources, Risk Management, University Counsel, University Audit, and Cornell school and college business officers and department administrators.
  • Seek and maintain collaborative partnerships across the university and advocate for and represent SCE on university committees.

This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The successful applicant is expected to work primarily on campus but could work a hybrid schedule as business needs allow. The hybrid remote schedule is subject to change to accommodate programmatic needs.


Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree with five to seven years of proven success in a senior level administrative or management role with substantial financial and human resources responsibility, or equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Expertise in financial and operational management, budgeting, and leading organization change.
  • Proven critical-thinking, decision-making, data-driven, and analytical approaches to problem-solving.
  • Integrity, diplomacy, respectful and collaborative ability to build consensus, and motivate and lead a complex organization and a high-functioning work group.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Proven experience connecting diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing practices to business goals. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Senior level administrative or management role in higher education.
  • MBA and or CPA preferred.
  • Experience in leading change management.

The minimum salary for this position will be $160,000.
