Research Assistant (Plant-Microbe Symbiosis)

Description:

A full-time position is available to support research that focuses on the symbiotic associations of plants and arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi. The successful candidate will join a team that is utilizing genetics, genomics, molecular and cell biology approaches to determine how the AM symbiosis develops and functions. Responsibilities will include the maintenance of AM fungi and assistance with a range of experiments including, but not limited to, genotypic and phenotypic analysis of plant symbiosis mutants, growth and maintenance of transgenic plants, microscopy analysis of colonized roots. Additional responsibilities include the oversight of laboratory safety and coordination of student lab assistants.

Requirements: B.S. or M.S. in plant biology, microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology or cell biology. Prior laboratory experience is essential. Excellent communication, record keeping and organizational skills are essential. A proven ability to work independently and also collaboratively is essential. Expertise with molecular biology, tissue culture or plant genetics is advantageous.
