Role Overview


Make your mark on Jewish student life by becoming Cornell Hillel’s next Director of Development. As

Director of Development, you will lead all development operations, reporting directly to the Executive

Director. You will oversee all fundraising strategy and campaigns, manage the fundraising efforts of the

Executive Director, and work closely with the Board and other lay leadership. Join our team and you will

power Cornell Hillel by connecting people to our community and raising vital funds.


● Oversee the development and execution of robust fundraising strategies to achieve current annual

goal of approximately $825,000 and increase revenues to $1.25 M over the next three years.

● Create a comprehensive annual campaign including cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation

through in-person meetings, direct mail, e-communications and telemarketing.

● Plan, execute, and ensure the success of development events.

● Oversee our endowment and planned giving campaigns through the management of our Life &

Legacy committee and successful completion of the campaign.

● Develop and execute compelling personal parent and alumni outreach, including meetings and

support of the Cornell Hillel Alumni and parent groups.

● Oversight of all campaigns, including annual, endowment, planned giving, events, direct mail,

and more.

● Manage our development database (Little Green Light) through data entry and gift processing

● Prepare grant proposals and reports for individual donors, philanthropic foundations, and other

funders.

● Oversee all mail and internet-based solicitations, including the preparation and production of

marketing materials.

● Mentor Hillel staff and student leaders on sponsorship opportunities and fundraising initiatives,

including recruiting, training and mobilizing students to partner in Hillel’s development efforts

● Build partnerships with campus administration and development office, Hillel’s International

Center, and foundations.

● Staff the Cornell Hillel Board’s Development Committee and subcommittee.

● Develop and promote a culture of philanthropy throughout Hillel, including creativity, teamwork,

accountability and continuous improvement.

● Support the Executive Director in developing organizational vision, including budget,

organizational structure, communications, marketing, policy and strategy.


● 7+ years of experience in professional fundraising. Past roles working in a Jewish organization are

a plus.

● Bachelor’s degree required


Generating funds with a track record of identifying, cultivating, soliciting and closing gifts

including any or all of the following: annual, capital, major gift and endowment giving

○ Sharing compelling stories about an organization’s mission and impact. As a result you’ve

increased investment, either volunteer, strategic, or financial.

○ Building, leading, empowering and coaching other fundraisers.

● Willingness to travel (< 20%). The role will be based in New York City or Ithaca. If located in New

York City, you will travel frequently to Ithaca, NY and occasionally to additional cities. If located

in Ithaca, you will travel to New York City and additional cities.
