Grants Manager - Boyce Thompson Institute

ABOUT THIS POSITION

BTI is seeking an energetic self-starter, who thrives in a fast-paced environment, to join the research administration team in the management of pre-award, post award, and close out duties associated with its robust sponsored award portfolio. The Grants Manager is responsible for working collaboratively with researchers and operational support staff to identify funding opportunities and develop proposals that support BTI’s research mission, while managing existing awards for sponsor compliance. The majority of BTI’s sponsored funding comes from the federal government in support of scientific research objectives. The successful candidate will be expected to have a solid understanding of federally funded grants management, including Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (2 CFR Part 200).

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

·       Grant application preparation and submission;

o   Budget development

o   Preparation of required administrative documents

o   Proofreading text and ensuring all application requirements are met

o   Submission of proposals to sponsoring agency

·       Drafting, negotiating and executing award and subaward agreements;

·       Award set-up in BTI management system;

·       Post-award budget management and compliance review;

o   Expense allocation and monitoring

o   Award forecasting

o   Salary and effort tracking

·       Monthly reporting to PIs on the fiscal status of their project(s);

·       Preparing required financial reports per sponsor guidelines;

·       Assisting with tracking, recording and reporting grant success rates and institutional impact;

·       Assistance with annual single and agency-specific audits;

·       Reviewing sponsor policies and BTI policy and guidelines for compliance;

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

·       Solid knowledge of federal granting agencies and OMB Uniform Guidance 2 CFR Part 200 is required.

·       Experience with federal research websites (grants.gov, Fastlane, research.gov, ERA Commons).

·       Possess a motivated, “self-starter” personality, with the ability to learn and adapt quickly to changing needs.

·       Excellent grant skills including researching, writing and management of grants processes and reporting.

·       Must be a proactive, energetic, solution-oriented team player and able to meet deadlines with the ability to balance multiple tasks with accuracy to details.

·       Superior project/time management skills - including planning/prioritizing, analysis, attention to detail, and advanced problem diagnosis and creative problem solving skills.

·       Must be reliable, flexible, and have the ability to work in partnership with other team members.

·       Work well under pressure and with a variety of people.

·       Microsoft Office software skills (including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

 

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

·       The work is conducted in an office setting. The work is sedentary with extended periods of sitting. Some walking, standing, bending, and carrying or lifting small items. Generally, no adverse environmental conditions are present.
