Open Doors English seeks temporary part time English as a Second Language instructors for summer program. ODE summer teachers provide English language instruction to adult speakers of other languages for the 8 week summer session: June 26th-August 18th (dates tentative). Multiple positions are available for two or four days per week. Most are in-person positions for morning or afternoon classes, with some online positions available in the evenings. Summer positions are 4 or 8 hours of instruction with 2 or 4 hours paid prep time per week.

Duties and Responsibilities:

● prepare for and provide ESL instruction that is appropriate, accessible, and engaging for students

● monitor students’ progress and modify instruction accordingly

● provide a positive, supportive learning environment with high expectations for students

● deliver English instruction that is appropriate and accessible across communicative modalities (reading,

writing, listening, & speaking)

● maintain class records

● attend staff meetings as requested

● maintain open and clear communication with ODE co-directors and colleagues

Skills and Qualifications: (preferred but not required)

● Experience teaching adults in a classroom setting

● Experience teaching ESL

● Experience learning another language and/or living in another culture

● Certification in TESOL, Master’s in TESOL or currently in a Master’s program

● ODE educators must respect students and their myriad cultures, languages, and experiences. ODE exists to serve a unique and vulnerable population, and it is essential for ODE educators to hold students’ gifts and needs in high regard.

Wage: $17/hour
