Thrive Ithaca EcoVillage Education Center is the education and outreach arm of EcoVillage at Ithaca.  Our mission is to inspire action for thriving people, communities, and our planet.  We offer a wide variety of experiential and on-line learning opportunities to engage the broader public in some of the most important issues of our time.

 

We are in an exciting and dynamic period of our development as we transition from a single Director-led organization to one with greater responsibility shared with an engaged Advisory Board.

 

Thrive is a project of the Center for Transformative Action (CTA), a non-profit, tax-exempt, educational organization chartered by the Board of Regents of the State of New York. The successful applicant will be an employee of CTA.

 

About this position:

We are looking for a creative, responsible, and articulate professional who can help coordinate the multiple tasks and responsibilities of running the organization. Our ideal candidate is already familiar with and supports the mission of the EcoVillage at Ithaca, has project management or coordination experience, and is excited about being part of a small but dynamic team, including Board members, student interns and volunteers working together to effect change.

 

Job Description

 

Title: Project Director

 

Hours & Pay: Part time (25 hours/wk) @$30-35/hr (depending on experience) paid bi-weekly, with benefits. Regular monthly attendance and participation in evening Board meetings and evening/weekend programming required.

 

Summary: Coordinate tasks and responsibilities of Advisory Board, supervise and coordinate staff and volunteers, perform program, administrative and financial tasks and responsibilities, support marketing and communication tasks as delegated.

 

Duties and Responsibilities (may be delegated as staffing permits):

 

Administration:

        Respond to web, email and phone inquiries from potential visitors and program participants

        Recruit and supervise volunteers and staff for program needs

        Supervise and collaborate with Program Coordinator

        Provide input to Advisory Board on reports and correspondence when requested

        Any other tasks as delegated by the Advisory Board Chair

        Provide Annual Report to CTA

 

Financial:

        Prepare Annual Budget in Consultation with Advisory Board

        Create and maintain financial reports for all programs

        Prepare, send, and track invoices for all programs

        Coordinate Membership program

        Support with fundraising activities in collaboration with Advisory Board

        Other tasks as required

 

Grants & Contracts:

     Write grants for program and administrative funding

     Manage grants & contracts

 

Program Support:

        Provide program presence and supervision for visiting groups when necessary

        Work with Program Circle to develop, vett, and offer online and in-person educational programs.

        Other tasks as required

 

Marketing & Communications:

        Meet with PR Circle to create effective marketing strategy

        Work with volunteers to help to publicize workshops and on-line events

        Coordinate with student interns on planning posts, blogs and engaging with community on social media outreach platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and YouTube

        Write and publish quarterly newsletter

 

 

CTA

The Project Director is responsible for working with CTA to ensure all CTA policies and procedures are followed across 4 general categories:

  1. Governance: Maintains a project Advisory Board (AB) of at least five members that meet at least quarterly.  Submits AB meeting minutes to CTA, notifies CTA of changes in AB composition.  Ensures project’s organizational documents are up to date and submitted to CTA.  Signs a new Affiliation Agreement when there is a change in AB leadership.
  2. Operations: In concert with the AB, ensures that project staff and volunteers are following all CTA policies and procedures, including those outlined in the Affiliation Agreement, the Fiscal Sponsorship Policies and Procedures document, and the Employee Handbook and Personnel Procedures.  Submits an annual report of project activities to CTA.  Submits online, email, and print fundraising campaigns to CTA for approval.  Notifies CTA of upcoming special events.  Reads and responds to CTA communications in a timely manner.
  3. Financial: In concert with AB, monitors project’s financial health.  Works with AB and CTA to submit an annual budget.  Tracks project expenses.  Reviews monthly financial statements provided by CTA.  Approves all project expenses and deposits.  Submits grant applications to CTA for review 15 days in advance of due date.
  4. Staff: Ensure all staff and volunteers have completed mandatory training.  If project has paid staff, Project Director approves employee time records and paid time off requests.  Completes annual performance reviews for all paid staff

 

 

Ideal candidate will have the following skills, attributes, and knowledge:

        Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.

        Excellent communication skills, ability to follow up with tasks, excellent organizational skills, excellent interpersonal skills

        Knowledge of and familiarity with Word, Excel, Google Drive, Google Suite/Docs, Squarespace, Facebook and other social media platforms.

        A commitment to JEDI (justice, equity, diversity and inclusion) in all aspects of the work

        Excellent writing skills

        Excellent attention to detail

        Proactive problem solver

        Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

        Knowledge, training and experience in grant research and writing and grantor relations.

        Experience supervising the work of others

        Experience in education
