Translational Research Scientist - Biotechnology-Boyce Thompson Institute

OUR ORGANIZATION

Working from a sincere interest in issues of social justice, William Boyce Thompson founded the Boyce Thompson Institute (BTI) in 1924, believing that basic plant research could lead to real societal benefit. BTI’s nineteen faculty-run laboratories and greenhouse facilities are staffed by more than 110 researchers from more than forty countries. The research out of these laboratories has the potential to improve important food crops, demystify plant and human immune systems, and reveal alternative, sustainable sources of energy. The majority of this research is funded through external grant funding.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

BTI recently launched a new technology hub and created a Technology Incubator that will host new start-ups and scientists advancing applied technologies emerging from BTI labs. This position is a unique opportunity to be involved in biotech research, help bring innovations to market and make an impact. The biotechnology scientist will be responsible for conducting applied research for selected projects, establishing proof-of-concept and validation experiments, and expanding the value of promising technologies. The field of work will include plant science and agriculture, biotechnologies as well as drug discovery. The scientist should be eager to learn new skills and be able to easily adapt to new concepts, new fields of study and projects; and to interact with industry and new start-ups.
